Walking Around Munchen

Good morning, Munich!

All that fresh air blowing into our room off the Englischer Garten is pretty hard to take. :-)

We're staying at the Gasthaus Englischer Garten, right on the Englischer Garten in the bohemian yet gentrified neighbourhood of Schwabing.  It's very nice - quiet, chirpy birds, cozy restaurants.

Having a happy river flowing right beside the place doesn't suck, either.

A little sight seeing on foot seemed like a good idea, despite the grey skies, sprinkles & 10C temperature.

For the Monty Python fans out there, the "Holy Hand Grenade" is a common sight on much statuary.  "Lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

The Viktualinen Markt in the old downtown center is fantastic - so much tasty food abounds, from cheese and meat and prepared meals to produce and baking, etc.  Ground zero for picnic provisions.

"Oh no, they put me on the bottom rung of the gargoyles, so I don't get the cool horns and ears that the higher-level gargoyles have!"

German high technology - sundials on the sides of churches are common.

A little pre-lunchtime climb up a church tower for a view of the city.  Sarah's not even breathing hard.

But where to go for lunch?

Like you had to ask.

Bon appetit.  1 litre of Helles doesn't really seem like that much.  Yep, it's that tasty.

Sarah went for the extremely tasty hefeweizen.  I was a bit jealous, but there's plenty more where that came from.

Dessert?  Welllll... I guess we could go across the street to Augustiner for a Dunkel and a Radler (1/2 Helles, 1/2 lemonade - much like a Shandy).

And we saw the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, though he appears to have lost a lot of weight.

    Enjoy!
