Vla, I Salute You

At one point in an Austin Powers movie (the third?), Austin's father says: "There are only two things I don't like.  People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch".  Well, I'm afraid I must disagree, because the Dutch brought us vla.  When Chad and Jason came out of the supermarket with it, I was dubious.  Anything 'pudding like' in a milk container with an expiry date that far in the future couldn't be good - could it?

As evidenced by this shot, taken not that long after, it could:

According to the internets, vla is a type of custard.  It has the viscosity of (runny) yogurt and is served cold, but is sweet and has a smooth texture.  We tried "dubbelvla" in the vanilla/chocolate flavours (the two flavours come out side by side, like Aquafresh toothpaste), but it also comes in caramel and a variety of other flavours.  We tried it with strawberries, we tried it with bananas, we tried it with cookies.  We tried it for dessert and we tried it for breakfast.  And it was good every time - good enough that it gets its own post on our blog.  A Dutch treat - thanks, Jason, for introducing us!
