Even More Antwerp

We had another, full day in Antwerp that we spent roaming the city in the sunshine.  Here's a few shots.

Morning cup of tea at one of our local cafes.  We stayed in the 'T Suid (south) neighbourhood which was a bit of a trek with our backpacks but totally worth every step.  It had a tons of cafes and restaurants, wasn't too far from the centre, and had a great neighbourhood feel (i.e., very few tourists other than us - at least not in April).

In the main square downtown.  On the left you can see the two church towers of the Cathedral of Our Lady.  Unfortunately for the skyline, only one of the towers was finished, and it took them 200 years to get that done!  (Wars, fire, and looting got in the way).

Taken in the Grote Market - the old merchant buildings.

We are finally wearing t-shirts instead of seven layers each!!

A double decker horse carriage with beer advertising.  Only in Belgium...

On the wall of a local school - clearly, the Belgians have perfected the process of freezing people in carbonite.  Members of the rebel alliance beware!  (That comment is totally attributable to Chad - I have no idea what he's talking about!)

In the Diamond District.  Business making up 10% of Belgium's national income is going on behind me.  Sadly (depending which of us you ask, I guess!), no McFrothy dollars contributed to the Belgian diamond business on this trip.

Instead our dollars went to this supermarket lunch in a market square.  Yes, my mouth is full.  Yes, this picture is only making it on this post in trade for one of Chad below :)

Lovely old building that also happens to be Linklaters Antwerp office.  Hopefully not Daphne's future employer!

No, that's not Reinhold Messner. Just a local market.

After lunch we went back through the tunnel and headed south to Galgenweel lake, which was full of students learning to sail.  Despite the fact we spent a couple hours there and walked around the entire lake, this is the only shot we have.

Chips, beer, and street music back in our 'hood.

Followed by more beer and live jazz at a local cafe.

Go to Antwerp - you will love it, I promise!
