Chad Gets Chopped in Chiang Mai

Regular readers of our blog may have noticed that Chad has been getting a bit... shaggy, lately.  He hadn't had his hair cut since before we left Canada for South America in early October, but by the time we were in New Zealand we thought, "well, we're almost in SE Asia, might as well wait".  In a Chiang Mai mall, opportunity knocked.

Not a luxury salon, but it's got a turning barber shop pole (behind the Menu on the left) so it must be legit.

Despite a bunch of people sitting waiting for cuts, the lady running the place ushered us right in.  Perhaps it was Chad's appearance?

Geared up and ready to go, we awaited the very capable woman at the chair behind us to finish with her customer so that she could get to Chad.

But alas, it was not to be.  Instead, a male hairdresser with wild hair appeared from somewhere else in the mall, obviously having been called in for the bait-and-switch, and set to work on Chad's hair.  I'm not sure where he came from, but it may have been beginner hairdressing school.  Although he obviously knew how to hold a pair of scissors and use them, there was a lot of uncertainty on his part about how this 'hair cutting' thing worked.

Happily, though, it would have been hard to make things worse and Chad walked away with short hair again.  Uniform, attractive, and free from missed tufts jutting out?  Not so much.  But short, yes.  What do you think?  The shot below is before he did a few touch ups of his own back at our hotel, but I think he's looking a lot more respectable and hopefully border guards everywhere will agree.

That said, I will be waiting until we get back to Bangkok before I get my hair cut :)
