Bellingham: An Oldie but Goodie

After Haida Gwaii, the McFrothys took a break from moving about so much and spent some down time in the interior (Sun Peaks, Salmon Arm, Kamloops) and Vancouver.  We don't get much sympathy, but it's exhausting to be on the road all the time!  And we are starting to gear up for the next big leg of our trip - South America in early October.

Highlights included some boating on the river in Kamloops:

This shot was taken after Allie jumped over the bow of the boat and chased some geese on the shore.

Drinking beer at some of our old favourite haunts (this is a taster tray at the Village Taphouse in West Van, which serves my favourite margherita pizza of all time):

Same colour beers, very different styles

BBQing on Spanish Banks with friends:

And enjoying a salmon burger at the annual Coho festival in West Van:

For the next leg of our 'local' adventuring, we decided to head south to the Olympic Peninsula.  This is one of the rainiest places in the Pacific Northwest, but the forecast was for sunshine all week.

Our first stop was Bellingham, where we have been known to pay many a visit.  It's close to Vancouver, has a quaint little downtown, and (now) has three great breweries: what's not to like?  Our two main destinations for the evening: Boundary Bay Brewing and Kulshan Brewery.

Outside Boundary Bay Brewing.  The sun is out, the hop vines are growing...

Beer in the new garden out back.  I am leaning on this post to get the sun on my face, not because I am drunk!

Apparently more people have to go to work on a sunny Wednesday afternoon than can go sit in gardens and drink beer.  We pretty much had the place to ourselves, even at happy hour.

Kulshan is Bellingham's newest brewery (Boundary Bay and Chuckanut are the other two).  We went to check it out.

Chad likes what he sees!

Mandatory taster tray.

Inspecting the wares.
The next morning we set off for the Olympic Peninsula - stay tuned for stories of the fun adventures we had there!
