On the Icefields Parkway

Highway 93 from Lake Louise to Jasper is known as the Icefields Parkway.  Until this trip, the closest I had gotten to it was hearing others rave about how beautiful it is.  You be the judge of whether this is the case.

Just another random lake on the side of the road.  Hideous, right?

Chad surveys the scenery atop a fringe of wildflowers.
Requisite shot from the viewpoint above Peyto Lake.  Now you see me...

Now you don't!

Our trusty steed has travelled over 6,000 km since we returned from Europe in July.

The Athabasca Glacier below the Columbia Icefields.  See where it was in 1992, versus where it is now.  What was that, global warming conspiracy theorists?

And even further back - where the glacier was on Chad's first visit in 1982!

More glacier shots.  We didn't do any icefield trekking or bus riding, but enjoyed the Athabasca Glacier from the safety of the roped off area while reading the signs noting the places where someone had fallen through and died of hypothermia before they could be rescued.  Beware the crevasses!

Our last big stop of the day was the Athabasca Falls just south of Jasper.  Also beautiful.  I think it's fair to say the Icefields Parkway lived up to the hype.
